I'm surprised that I found this first. Hmmmm lets see here, You are describing the brakes being locked up I believe. If that is the case I would get it in a warm building if possible. And see if the brakes will release. I bet you have some moisture in your brake fluid. If you havent changed your brake fuid in a while its time. If you can't get it into abuilding then you may be able to warm up one line at the time at the bleeder with a propane torch. Just be very careful, and don't overheat the lines they only need to be above freezing.

Good Luck

Don

Sounds Like a brake. If you have an electric space heater you could try directing it at the wheel and see what happens.

Dave

Did you use the parking brake when you first parked? Happend to me once and the cable froze in the cable housing due to moisture getting in. Also check where the cable enters the housing some times it freezes there due to snow or ice build up.

Best to get it in a heated building to thaw things out and then go from there. Let us know what you find. :confused:

no to the parking brake, and the heated building changed brake fluid 1-3 months ago took off the calipers. I'm going to go heat up the drum if that doesn't work I'll pull it and see whats up on the inside!

I want my truck fixed:{ :{ :{

Sounds like a spring on the brake shoe has failed or brake cylinder could be bad. Have you tried to back off the brake at the adjuster. I was once backing my brakes off on my boat trailer and loosened the brake up to much the whole works had to come off to reposition the shoes to the brake cylinder. Hope this helps.

I had this same problem a couple weeks ago. Moisture got into the parking brake cable. When I set the brake it froze overnight. Get a small space heater and aim it at that area of the truck. I ended up just moving the truck forward and backward while jumping on the E-brake and releasing it. After about 20 tries it popped.

Thanx DMC, I missed that small post. My scrolling mouse got me on that one. I almost missed it 2 times!

I'd pull it appart and check the springs, like DMC said. Something is loose in there.

(possibly a retaining spring)

Josh

Try opening the bleeder, apply e-brake, tightening the bleeder, release e-brake. This will often release frozen shoes. You can do this in addition to rocking the rig back and forth with e-brake on. Let us know how it goes. Mike

tHAW OUT DRUM . hIT IT A FEW TIMES WITH A HAMMER iT WILL BREAK LOOSE . dO NOT SET YOUR BRAKES IN REAlly cold weather if your drums are warm.

I DIDN'T SET MY E-BRAKE:{ I know better!!! did it last year:-laf hammer on it!! OK:D wont it thaw out driving too???? it feels like it releases after 5-10 feet in 1st then when I hit the brakes again it lockes back down. so is the ice slowing up its reset time?

See what happens when you threaten to turn loose someone named "Chainsaw" on an inanimate object. :rolleyes: She straightens/loosens right up. :D

the reason I'm chainsaw is because when my husqivarna 394 kicked back it gave me a 7"x3" gash in my neck it missed my juggular vein by 1/100 of an inch got somewhere around 250 stitches and a scar that stickes out about 1/4" and is1/2" wide X 6"long. be careful with chainsaws they bite like a b*tch. my father in law gave me the name chainsaw.
