Does anyone have advice on making the door of a car not get froze shut when it (obviously) gets below freezing. This is for a car that does not have any protection over the door like on a truck. I have put silicone on the weather stripping but that does not seem to help. Would new weather stripping work better since the original is 12 years old?

Thanks in advance,

Doug

Nothing in the "other" forum will show up when you search for new threads or search for the todays threads. It used to be you could see the other threads, but some folks decided it was no longer a good idea.

what kind of car is it? I had a VW in high school that would do the same thing.

Have you tried Vasoline

I have had OK luck with a thin coat of petroleum jelly (Vasoline) on the gasket and mating surface. It is non-staining and wipes off pretty easy in the Spring.

If you can find it....

Try Krytox oil on the seal and clean and wax the inside painted surface of the door. Krytox is a synthetic lube used in industrial vacuum pumps for one. I never actually bought it so I don't know where or how much it costs. I used to use Armour All until someone I work with tipped me off on the Krytox.
