Frozen Pac

Through the years my PacBrake has gotten worse about freezing in the on position when I first engage it in the AM to help warm the eng. If I tap on the dump valve located on the pump enough, it will eventually let go.
Is there anything short of strapping a tail light bulb on it (to warm it) that will get it working? Is this a sign that the valve is worn or weak?

The valve that is designed to quickly dump the air pressure off the cylinder when the solenoid is closed was designed to go down at the cylinder... so that you didn't have to wait for the air to run back through the 1/4" air line.. We sold them and installed them... and I can't remember an installation where this valve was placed close to the compressor...

Try moving it down to the air cylinder... don't be afraid to wash it out... brake cleaner... or other spray chemical that won't leave residue... the heat from the manifold should melt any water/ice that might be in the valve during warm up...

I think you have moisture in the system. Do you drain it regularly?

Thanks Jim, I'm going to take a look at it today to see how easy it will be to move the valve. The pump assembly was supposed to be mounted on top of the front of the eng but I felt it got too hot there (fried relay once) and moved it over to the passenger corner of the eng. bay. It stays cooler there but likes to freeze. When I bought the kit it was from someone on fleabay and the pump was new (and assembled) but the exhaust valve was used (he had upgraded to the latest Pac).

JCasper, thanks for the suggestion but this kit didn't have atank so there's nothing to drain. In fact all I have is an air line about 2' long.

So I need to move the black alum. block on the center right of the first pic down to the other end of the air line. Now if it would just get above freezing..
