Please don't assume that everyone who pulls up to the RV lanes, or even the truck lanes, is a jerk, because there may be a reason you just aren't aware of! At the Flying J in my area, I've noticed the diesel pumps at the RV lane have one last final fuel filter installed in-line on the hose. I don't see a filter like this on the car-lane diesel pump. Until somebody pops the cover on the pump and shows me that it is there but just out of sight, I'll have to continue going to the RV pump that has this extra protection.

But, the rest of the story: There is rarely, if ever, a line. If someone pulls up before I finish, on those rare occassions when I haven't used "pay at the pump", I move my vehicle before I go in to pay. And if someone has pulled up while I was inside, I walk faster, make eye contact, and tell them I'll be moving right away.

I agree, there are a lot of true jerks out there, but if you jump to conclusions you may sometimes put some nice folks in the wrong group. Don't worry, the real jerks always show their cards soon enough!

Flying J's

That's all I try to use. Use the big rig pumps as 2 filters on hose, long window scrubber, etc, and try to use the farthest pump (usually no room for the big rigs to pull up from and long walk to the fuel desk). Then pull out and park on the auto side to go in and sign the express paperwork, usually hanging on the counter. Use 00 as unit # and for the hub # use the fill-up odo reading. This way, I get done quicker AND because I have a fuel slip, can fill the pot (32oz) w/coffee free. The big rig drivers have never complained and I tell them the pump(s) # that is/are avail on the CB when I leave. On busy days (lots of big rigs in line) they know I'll be done quick and they usually leave me room to back out so they can get in (if I have to use a lane with a rig pulled up) or if the rig has pulled up enuff, I can "sneak" out w/o tying up the lane or at the least, I am ready to pull out when the rig in front leaves. Just some other info.....

You can use your cc on any of these pumps and its the cash price at the J's (some of the "oddball" stops I have had to use wont give cash disc for cc purchase, so you may want to check with the fuel desk first). Then go into the J and sign the p/w. Too easy?? dont know but I usually can get fueled, paid and gone while other diesels are still waiting/fueling at the car pumps and they pulled in ahead of me :D:D! Just another "cheap" opinion worth about 0. 015$.....

weve experienced the same problems at truck stops in all the states that we travel. its very simple, get on the intercom, give them your tag # tell them youre a private vehicle, fill up then move out of the way for the next customer. most truckers realize that the size of your rig prohibits use on the auto side,[after all a lot of them have campers and motorhomes also] i have no problem at all going into a truckstop and finding the driver that either has me blocked in or has decided to leave his rig for an hour lunchbreak , blocking the only pump available. i get alot of nasty looks and sometimes some rude remarks, but usually as i talk to the driver on the way out, it comes to a friendly conclusion. these guys work harder for the money than most people realize, and sometimes their so tired they dont think about other people waiting to fuel up. my advice is to note the good and bad places to fuel and stick with the good ones, even if it costs more. ;)

I've never had a problem filling up with the big rigs at a truck stop, although I prefer the Fly J's with the RV sections.

On the up side I like the long squeegies, but usually fuel on the ground stinkin' up my sneekers... . and my pet peeve = having to go inside to pay!

I like paying at the pump at Fly J!!
