Howdy folks,

I'm preparing to install an fs2500 on my rig and was wondering...

Somewhere I read about routing the return through the oil cap. Is this being accomplished with a modified factory cap or is a special one available?

The kit I purchased came with a frame mount bracket placing the unit on the outside of the RH frame rail under the cab door. The only photo on fs's site shows an underhood mount at the left front of the engine. Was an engine mount bracket ever a production part or was this a custom part?

I'm trying not to drill 'n tap the valve cover if I can help it. I read the recent traffic about using a spare dipstick boss but I'd only feel comfy with a proven fitting there.

As for frame mounting, I live in snow country, and I believe that a protective cover/blast shield would be almost mandatory for a mount in that location.

I can fabricate this stuff but I'd like to keep downtime to a minimum.

Thanks for your thoughts/suggestions,

-V

v,i have the frame mount set up also only due to the jake brake. the engine mount will not fit due to the location of the vacuum pump for the brake. i drilled and located the return fitting on the valve cover. i think this is the best location. as far as the canister rusting it is very thick steel and coated with a good paint,it would take many years to rust through. the whole system is well made. i like mine. the filter is easy to change. i found with frame mounted canister it takes 2 qts. of oil when you change the filter. hope this info helps.

I talked with them last week and for the 6. 7 they send a new oil cap to send the oil back through. I don't see why you couldn't order one though.

Update...

Thanks for the replies...

The interference problem with the vac pump occurred to me right after I clicked "submit thread". As of this writing, the kit is installed per the instructions save for the pressure tap and torquing the valve cover bolts.

I sent a sample to Blackstone of the oil I drained out prior to this installation. I'm going to try FS's recommendation, starting with a fresh fill and filters, then sample every 5K miles.

My truck is on CJ-4 Rotella now, and I'm really curious to see how well it handles bypass and extended drains. (fire extinguisher ready with pin out, so don't even think about it ;))

I was thinking I might try to make a cover out of a ballistic nylon type material with a velcro flap or heavy duty snaps just to protect the unit from road crap. I'll post some pix if I get anywhere with this.

Thanks again...

I have a fs2500 and a jake break I just made a spacer with 1/2 square tubing and longer bolts. when i change the filter i pull it from mount and change the filter. Every 10,000 miles not all that bad.
