Hello all, my name is Dave, and I live on Eielson AFB near Fairbanks Alaska. I am taking delivery this week of a 2002 2500 QC Deep Garnet Red SB 4X4 with the Cummins ofcourse. I have been reading up back posts on this subject, but am still wondering if there are "approved" fuel additives, or if the use of them will "void" my warranty, I have the 7 year 100,000 mile warranty, and don't want to jeapordise it. I have wanted a Cummins powered truck since I first drove my Dads when he came to visit my family back in 1994, now I will finally have one, and I want to take the best care of it i can. I plan on installing fuel pressure guage, and am open to suggestion for whatever other guages are necessary, will get them as soon as I have some extra cash, this fall at the latest. Really like the board here, been a solid Ford driver my whole life, but the Cummins won my heart, I like the look of the Dodge truck as well.

Dave,

Welcome to the TDR! I don't believe any of the fuel additives (Shell, lucas, standyne, powerservice, and others) would void your warranty. I'd do a search on this topic and I think you'll find lots of threads.

Fuel pressure gauge is good start, but must warn you... If you hang out here too much, you might get a serious case of BOMBitis.

Thanks. There is a heep of information on this site, some of it can be overwhelming, I like to think of Cummins as the best of the best, so some of the problems I see posted here are disheartening, but when looking at how many Cummins Rams are out there, this is probably a small cross section, that identifies problems to watch for. I can't wait to get mine, unfortunately, mine will take a while to break in as it will not be worked near the way it was intended to be. Thanks again.

Even Fleetguard Has One

If the use of fuel additives will void your warranty, I don't think Fleetguard would be marketing their own version / formula. Here is an excerpt from their website news.

My local station has Amsoil Diesel fuel additive, $5. 95 for a bottle that treats 100 gallons. It says it adds lubrication for the fuel pump, decreases smoke, lowers pour temp 25-35 degrees, etc. I wish they had more than one brand, I would like to try some of the others that I have read about, I think my local(27 miles) Sam's Club has Rotella fuel additive, haven't heard too much about it, ah well, I shall shop around, I would like to find it in a little more of a bulk size, then just pre-measure it into safe containers so the wife can add it when she manages to get her paws on it. Thanks again for the replies.
