I am new at this diesel game and would like know if I should be using any type of fuel additive to keep the injectors clean.

Some people say you don't need to if you buy clean fuel. Some do it for insurance and to keep out moisture. Personally I dump in a bottle every fuel up. I carry 100 gallons when full and I feel like it helps keep down condensation. A bottle of the PS. stuff treats 100 gallons, works out just fine.

A local diesel/turbo shop recommends some additive (I use the Stanadyne in the blue bottle) at every fill up. They say moisture will kill the pump faster than anything. If you use a good additive that will be prevented. It's not only good insurance, it makes the pump operate a lot quieter, too.

Steven... . I have used Redline 85+ in the tank before I pulled off the lot.

I have also tried LE DCI+. I was hoping for some mileage improvement, but have seen none over 6K miles from either brand.

Both of these brands have quieted the engine, and I hope, provided the lubricity for my injection pump which is the main reason I decided to use it.

Have a friend who swears by Howes, so that's my next try.

Do a search on fuel additives. There's a lot of info.

Steven,

There are lots of additves to choose from as you will see with this post.

I have been using HOWES based on my brother-in-laws recommendation whom has driven 18-wheelers for 20 years. He tells the story, “how a few years back when the temperatures dipped below freezing in the upper mid-west and all the other truckers fuel was freezing up, how he just kept on going, driving by truck after truck on the roadside and at truck stops because he used this product. ”

I use HOWES Lubricator in the winter and HOWES Leaner Meaner in the Spring/Summer.

Hope this helps. ------------------
