Some time ago there was a lot of discussion about fuel additives for our CTD. With the advent of the new 6. 7 motor I was wondering if additives are recommended?(Of course not by Dodge) FWIW I added 8oz of 2 cycle oil to the tank on a fill-up for increased lubricity in my 99.

The manual states NO additives, that is what I plan on doing, putting oil in your fuel with the systems on these trucks will be very expensive for you, those days are long gone, I would just drive it and enjoy it.

Diesel Fuel alone does a good job of sooting up egr coolers, egr valves and dpf's. I would think two stoke oil or snake oil additives would only aggrevate the issue further. YMMV

this was posted in by another user from another website. i think it is fairly credible, and is very interesting.

personally i like using a little snake oil in every tank, it seems to make a difference on my truck and its a little extra insurance.

Problem is that this is the 4th gen section, and that study was done well before the introduction of the 6. 7 and related emmission components. What you can run in your '97 is vastly different than what's called for in the much less tolerant 6. 7L.

I don't think there are any issues using something like Power Service white in the winter months for anti-gel, or an additive/cleaner designed for modern fuel and emission equipment to "clean things out once in a while". But to use snake oil on a regular basis on the new equipment is not only throwing away dollars on the product, but taking a risk of damaging expensive emission components.

i think many of the additives are ok in the new 6. 7, my understanding is that if it is ulsd rated than it is ok, but i could be wrong. several of the additives listed said ulsd compliant, and the ones that arent the comment was made that it could damge the engine/emmisions systems. based on that study, 2% soybean oil is the best lubricant, the 6. 7 is warrentied for b5. running b2 should not cause any issues.

for our equipment i am working on running either soybean oil or peanut oil at about . 5% of the tank volume. since you never burn all of the fuel that is in the tank, that percentage will slowly climb higher while being cost effective. likely what i will do is every 10th tank or so i will skip adding the oil and bring the percentage back down again. all of this should not harm the fuel sytem or engine in anyway, but i have older trucks and so i dont have to be so worried about it.

i think its going to depend on what your trying to target. adding an additive for performance (contreversal as to gains) would probably not be good in the new 6. 7, though one could argue that if you can burn the fuel cleaner with an additive it will incresae the longevity.

if your going for lubricity, adding a biofuel at 2 to 5% would probably be a big benefit. also i think biofuel burns cleaner than dino and mixed it would probably also help prolong the emmision systems life.

im just thinking out loud here, any and all thoughts i think would benifet us all.
