Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fuel Additives

bought some JD today for $5. 50 per bottle. Bottle does 104 gallons. Got three bottles. They thought I was crazy.



Looks just like Stanadyne on their comparison/perfomance criteria.

I have used Stanadyne Lubricity Formula for 6 months or so, I just ordered another case of a dozen 16 Oz. bottles.



A 16 Oz. bottle will treat 120 gallons of Diesel and costs $4. 25

Robert I'm going to have to try that stuff. Good bang for the buck. I'm using Rotella fuel treatment that I get from Sams Club, 4 gallons for $33. 00. But 1 oz only treats 3 gallons of diesel. With yours 1 oz treats 7. 5 gallons of diesel, plus the Rotella only cleans and keeps the fuel from gelling where yours lubricates, which is what I need. Your familiar with my area, where would you suggest I look for the Stanadyne Lubricity Formula?

I also bought a bicycle water-bottle holder, (in black) and screwed it to the back of the bed, right behind the driver's seat, in the gap between my Aux. tank and the side of the bed. I keep the opened bottle there so it is handy to get to. This stuff really stinks, so I keep it out of the cab.

I was talking about JD Summer treatment being similar to the Stanadyne PERFORMANCE FORMULA. A 16oz. bottle of Performance Formula only treats 60 gal of diesel and gallon jug of it costs $32. 30 PLUS shipping from DIS.



I get the JD stuff at any John Deere dealer in a gallon jug for $31. 95 and no shipping cost.



Both are roughly $0. 25 / oz when you buy a gallon at a time (without shipping from DIS). The difference is when you consider an average 25 gallon fill-up. Stanadyne Perf. Formula treats 3. 75 gallons/oz and JD treats 6. 625 gal/oz. Using Perf. Formula you spend $1. 67 (without shipping costs) per fill-up, and using JD Summer (or Winter) you spend $0. 94 per fill-up.



I am not an employee of, or shareholder in, John Deere Co. I just spend less money and use a product that is closest to the best. I can get Performance Formula locally, but that joint charges $8. 35 per pint. I don't know the shipment cost for a gallon of fuel additive from DIS, so I did not include it. Anyway, it is different depending on where you are.

I've mainly used the Howe's. I don't have a problem getting it as the truck stop I always fill up at, has a good stock of it. I use the Power Service stuff as well. I also treat every tankful. I don't do it for the mileage as much as the lubricity for the fuel pump.

me4osu, I finally figured out you were talking about the Stanadyne Performance formula. What does it do for your truck? I mean, I use the Lubricity formula for added injection pump lube & protection, but I've never used the performance formula.

It is supposed to provide the same wear protection as the Lubricity formula, but increase Cetane number and lower pour point.



Of course, with the JD stuff, you have to pay attention to which formula you have for the pour point reduction. With the Stanadyne, you don't.

I use canola cooking oil. 1 1/2 qt. to a fillup. Runs great. On my 2nd year. Drive about 25K miles a year. Tow 12,000 pound 5th/wh. RV. Has more lubricity than any additive. Check out website

Cool, I love alternatives.



But I can say that I was up 50 miles at the half tank mark. I'll fuel up tomorrow. I know my MPG is up with JD.

Check out Rotella DFA, on the Rotella web site you can go to the DFA product information. States it lubes the pump, cleans the injectors, treats for winter freeze, disperses water and also raises the cetane level 3 pts. I buy a case (4 gallons) which will treat 1200 gallons of diesel for $33. 00 at Sams club.

MPG up

Well I be dipped, The JD stuff brought my mileage up.



My last 1200 miles averaged 18. x, and 17. 2 for the 436 before that.



First treated tank got 20. 3! I'll wait a few more tanks before I give John Deere DFC all the credit.

I use Power Service diesel fuel addive ONLY for additional lubricity - and because it's reasonably priced, and sold at our local Walmart... Another thread carried a Stanadyne graph that showed the PS stuff was right there in lubricity with their own stuff - and JD as well... According to a recent fuel supplement article in TDR mag, expecting much actual cetane increase from the vast majority of additives is a waste of money - VERY few actually delivered anywhere NEAR what they claimed...



BUT, I'm always on the look-out for anything better...

An interesting coincidence just happened. I just got the case of Stanadyne which I ordered, only instead of the Lubricity Formula, they sent me the Performance Formula. I e-mailed them and asked them if the P. F. would lubricate the pump as well as the L. F. and they replied and said yes.



So I am going to try this and see how I like it. The DIS website said the Perf. Formula cuts down on smoke... We'll see about that!

Well, I haven't put a bunch of miles on. And two tanks have been more highway than usual. But the lowest MPG I've calculated since starting on the JD is 18. 8, and I have been well into the 17's before. So the jury is still out, but I'm thinking at least . 5 if not . 75 better on the JD. More miles will tell.



And I'll keep using it even if my mileage isn't better.



Kinda like taking vitamins/supplement--you might not find out until years later if they worked, but you feel better taking them.
