Went by the Dealership today to get A lack of power problem looked at and they asked if I am using fuel additives. I'm not so I told them "NO". they told me that the diesel we get at the pump no longer is being made with additives (cleaning & lubricating). they said to use some that I could get it at cummins and napa that it would lube the injector pump and prolong its life. has any one else heard of this??? or did I just come back from mars and I just think I heard what they said.

You just got back from Mars, go to this link and see for yourself. http://www.chevron.com/prodserv/bulletin/diesel/L1_toc_rf.htm
They (oil companies) are removing more Sulfer from Diesel fuel, but they are adding other additives to take it's place. I use an additive mostly for water and gelling in the winter.
Using an additive will not cure a lack of power problem.

Guess it would depend on how much power youre lacking.
I use Power Service (silver bottle) and I notice a substantial reduction in smoke. Other than this, I see no advantage.

Tom C:

Welcome to the TDR Website!

I have been using the "Stanadyne
Performance Formula" for some time
now. Like "The patriot" I also have
a reduction in the amount of smoke
and the engine definitely runs
smoother in the winter. This
additive has a cetane booster in
it and also anti-gelling formula
to help you out in the winter too.

I use the power service diesel kleen. I think it is cheap insurance with an aux. tank to help with condensation until the fuel is used. If it keeps everything else clean, that is a bonus.

Don,really enjoyed the Chevron web site.
I use a deposit remover called
B. G 44K (berryman gold)
every 20k miles. Then try to time this right before an oil change because of the coke and carbon that might slip past the rings. I've heard that using a strong deposit remover is not good for the oil.
Also use the blue bottles of STP diesel fuel conditioner in my 1981 mercedes 300D for cold <25degrees mornings. Old Benz won't hardly crank on cold mornings. Been real happy with these additives.
