Navy Story

F. A. E's are apparently being used in Afganistan someone on the radio said here in the Boston area (also called them the BLU82 - aka "Big Blue" from the Vietnam days the person stated).

What the heck are they exactly?

Sounds quite nasty ... apparently one was used that created that 1000+ foot mushroom cloud in Afganistan earlier today.

FATCAT - check out www.thesun.co.uk (sorry I can't post the link) and look for Bunker Busters. These suckers JDAM's and GBU's (acronyms stand for Joint Direct Attack Munitions and Guided Bomb Units) "are capable of penetrating rock and concrete several hundred feet deep before expolding". The first one delivers a 2000lb warhead and the GBU 5000lb!! The GBU can be launched from 18 miles away and guided by forces on the ground with "pinpoint accuracy"

Take that!!!:D :D

Well whaddyaknow, I guess I can post links! When the site comes up go to the top left "go to" drop down to "news" and look for Bunker Busters. There's a good synopsis of the equipment being used in Afghanistan.

I believe a FAE bomb when "exploding" first deploys a mist of a very flammable liquid into the air and then causes the cloud to explode. They are supposed to be very effective.

Since the fuel is vaporizing in air, the fuel-air ratio is near perfect.

Result... ..... horrible concussion.

Furthermore, the vapor gets into every nook, cranny, orofice, crevice, etc... ... ... ... total destruction.

Even if you are lucky enough to survive the initial BLAST--you would sufficate from the lack of oxygen! Many a Viet Cong experienced that.

I would not want to be on the receiving end of that thing. We Americans think up of all kinds of neat things!!!

Poor mans NUKE

Wasn't that the bomb that Sodomy Husein was testing right about the time of Desert Storm. It atomizes liquid (gasoline) above the target and lights it off causing a "windstorm" effect. I remember the concern, as it was as effective on personal as a nuke.

Just remember boys... ... ... you can't call that carpet bombing!

A guy at work had an e-mail all about the terrorist attacks in the Clinton years and the focus at the time was how do we get Bill Gates! Man, talk about a misguided idiot!

here's a "before and after" that Pat and Vanna will never use.....

AFGHAN

CARPET

BOMBING :D :D :D

heard that the nickname for that is "dropping a stick" or words to that effect, since they exit the bomb-bay in such a tight group that they seem almost like one single unit

I've wondered if a bunch of the so-called "innocent civilians" aren't actually being injured by stray anti-aircraft rounds (and SAM's ) returning to earth... . seems like Iraq tried to play that same PR game with us 10 years ago

I wonder if an F. A. E. can be fitted with a laser sensor, and flown into a cave? (Can you say, "9 foot diameter torch-flame"?)----Surely, by doing that, not only would there be big damage in the immediate area, but if it's timed to coincide with a spy-satellite, the air disturbances would surely unmask any and all other alternate entry/exit routes for a tunnel network... . just keep blasting away at the various mountains that way, and see what kind of havoc can be created
