Just installed fuel vent, what a difference in tank fill time, well worth the time and money for the install. Before when the handel clicked off it took 15 minutes to get her full to the neck now it takes less than 30 seconds. The tank was completely empty, dried out with a rag. I then dumped in 17 liters and pretty much coasted to a service station a 1/4 of a mile away and it took 137. 98 liters full to the neck, total 154. 98 liters, thats 34 gallons Canadian(imperial) or 41 US gallon. Gee I should be able to get 300 miles to a tank now

300 miles to a tank... . i get 550 on the highway ... . thats at 70mph with the cruise set... . i know this because i drive from Camp Pendleton CA to Pima AZ and the low fuel light dings as i pull in to my Ex GF's house..... its a 535 mile trip one way. then i drive around the next day and get fuel at the end of the day... .

Just an FYI, I emailed David about this last summer and he sent me the install pdf. I just printed it off and thought you might want to note this tid bit in case you missed it:

THIS MODIFICATION ALLOWS YOU TO USE THE AIR SPACE DESIGNED IN TO THE TANK TO ALLOW FOR EXPANSION.

IF YOU FILL YOUR TRUCK UNTIL YOU CAN SEE FUEL IN THE FUEL NECK ON A HOT SUMMER DAY AND PARK YOUR TRUCK IN THE SUN, THERE WILL BE NO PLACE FOR THE FUEL TO EXPAND. THIS MAY CAUSE THE FUEL TO LEAK. :)

I'm in SLC and it can get pretty toasty here in the summer so this info will be on my mind everytime I fill up. I'm going to order one. I am tired of the all day tank fill.

If you are already doing the all day tank fill(topping off until you see the fuel in the neck) you are using the space alloted for expansion anyway. David's kit doesn't do anything but speed up the time it takes for topping off.

I think it is one of the greatest cheap mod's out there. I can't believe I had my truck 3 months before I put it on.

BTW, I usually fill up after about 500 miles or so and I still have over a quarter tank left.

Actually I don't ... . I'm being dramatic! I tried to fill er up ONE time...

#$^&%-A! ... . I am way too impatient for that.

I strongly recommend David's kit. After NEVER getting my F250's 2 tanks full in 13 years, I was already researching ways to vent my CTD's tank when I discovered David's kit. I thought that I could buy all the parts cheaper myself. After many hours on the internet, I realized David had already done all the work and found all the correct fittings that are diesel compatible. It is well worth the price.

Except for the price at the pump, I enjoy filling my tank at full speed.

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated in any way with David. Just another happy customer. :)

That is true, but more an issue with gasoline than diesel fuel. I haven't had that issue because it is extremely rare that I fill up and park it without driving it 100 miles or more. I usually fill at the Flying J in Des Moines IA, and I live in Omaha.

I just like the extra capacity (I would never stand there for 20 minutes to click off an extra 3-5 gallons of fuel). The extra few gallons means a few less trips to the pump each year since I already visit the Flying J about 100 times a year.

The only reason I stood there and clicked off the 5-7 more gallons was because I wanted to make sure to get accurate MPG calculations. If you aren't so concerned about that then the only reason to do the vent kit would be for the added capacity.

Took me about 3 hours. I drove the truck till it was almost empty,it actually started to sputter in the garage, there was less than 3 cups of fuel left in the tank. As far as the expansion of fuel in the heat goes,I just leave the truck running,up north here in Nova Scotia its 60 deg. under ground and 70 deg. above groud so it isn't a big issue. And as far as milage goes,I did get 480 miles to a tank once, driving at 62 mph(slow) on cruse. Now I can't wait to fill my truck up again, great mod. Oo.

So for you guys that have done the vent mod, how many gallons do you get in from when the nozzle pops off, to when it is at the top of the neck?

Could just stopping when it pops off give you some air space?

GWBourne:

What mods have you done on your 04. 5? Lifted???Large tires??? Mine is stock except for the utility bed and the fact that I am better than 9000lbs all the time. My range is almost always 650 miles... 50-50 city/highway. I had one tank at over 700 miles... mostly highway though at 70mph.

Before the mod I could never get the fuel to the top with out it draining down. Now after shut off about 20 – 30 seconds and apx 1 gal and clear fuel in nozzle that stays at constant level.

link is in my signature and I have squeezed in 37 gallons intoa quadcab shortbed tank. It hurs the pocket book to fill up but its better not having to do it so often

Good to hear from so many satisfied customers! :D

I haven't spent much time on the boards lately since my back surgery and subsequent blood clot in the lung, but I'm feeling better now and getting back to normal except for the brace around my midsection.

I would guess you'd have about a gallon or so left in the tank after the pump clicks off the first time. 35 gallons of diesel fuel will expand . 8 gallons if heated from 50 degrees F to 100 degrees F. I don't even know if you could get the tank that warm, but I guess it would be possible in the desert "dry heat".

I have this kit I just haven't installed it yet but I'm wondering how it works with that brass cap on the hose ? How does the air get out ?
