After a lot of research and numerous phone calls I decided on Stanadyne. My truck has been running fuel additive since the first tank. I buy the Performance Formula and Lubricity Formula and mix them 2:1. 12,000 miles and absolutely no problem. I have been getting 22-23 MPG driving the interstate at 65 MPH.

I've been using mmo and powerservice.

Does anyone burn their old motor oil? I've been thinking of throwing maybe a quart or so in each tank. Dumb?

Wouldn't the heaver oil settle out to the bottom of the tank?

I wouldn't burn old MO due to the soot and other contaminants it contains. Probably not good for the fuel filter, fuel pump, or injectors.

I just turned over 103235 on my 04 and been running Lucas additive and never had a problem. "Cheep insurance IMO"..... You take care of your truck it will take care of you... . I plan on having many, many more miles on mine... . Getting the picture ready to send in for my 100,000 mile club plate

The manual says additives are not needed but when I took my truck in for injector knock and an abnormal idle situation they told me to put in some high priced cleaner/conditioner first. After a couple of treatments things are improving. I have been using Howes Meaner Cleaner all along but the Wynns stuff from the dealer seems to be working. I just got some Redline product to try. As stated above I think some fuel sources are the problem. Where I live we have only one choice for fuel and this is when I seem to have problems.

The diesel will dissolve the oil. The manual says you can burn small quantities of motoroil to help lubricity of the fuel. I don't remember it specifying new or used. Probably new. I have burned my used oil at about a quart per tank of fuel. Not every tank, but now and then I've poured some in. No problems so far. For a while there my used oil was worth about $3. 00 a gallon that way. Now it is back to about $2. 49 here in Denver.

A buddy of mine has been burning his used oil in his 12 valve for about 390,000 miles. No issues with it, but it isn't a common rail.
