I have noticed the past couple of days that when i turn off my truck it is taking a couple seconds longer to shut completly down could my fuel cut off selonoid be going bad?? is there anything i can clean or adjust to fix this.

Usually delays or refusals to shut off are caused by debris lodged in the solenoid.

Usually, debris is caused by some part failing in the pump...

UGLY... yeah, I know. doesn't sound good, but if you can managed to remove the solenoid and not drop the innards out, you can look in there and see if it's got metal garbage inside. If it does, your SOL, usually. Time for pump work.

i sure hope the pump is not gonna be toast. I don't have much cash these days. I did notice the problem occuring after i maunally worked the throttle under the hood while checking for a vacuum leak near the power brake booster. i did notice that when i manually worked the cut off on the side of the pump that the next time i turned the truck off it turned off normally. Then the problem occured again next time i turned off the truck.

The lever moves the fuel metering sleeve to the "no pump" position, and that's why the engine dies. The solenoid just hydraulicly locks the fuel out of the pumping plunger inlet port.

There are few alternatives, if your pump is going out, but you could try wrecking yards, or find someone who's replaced an engine. If it's just a spring that broke, the bill won't be too bad (still several hundred), but not nearly as bad as if you need a complete rebuild or go to an exchange pump.

Best of luck... and if there's anything you need help wtih holler... I still have some slight pull at a pump shop... :)
