Installing new lift pump and pusher pump at tank, wanting to run a fuel filter before pusher pump. Can I use just a regular Fram plastic see-thru with paper element like you get at Wal-Mart or will the combined psi from lift and 7psi pusher pump be to much for that type of filter? Have read on some filters not to exceed 10 or 15 psi, but very few list psi specs. I'm thinking the new set-up will be around18-20 psi, am I correct?

RBOLTEN,

I can't help much with the pump question but for the other question I can.

At the top of the page on your screen you will see seven dark colored buttons. the first one all the way on the left is titled user cp click on that then when your screen comes up click on edit profile. Then on the right side of the page you will see a place for signature. That is where you put all the facts that you want us to see. Aint life great. :D :D

rbolten, you have to consider three things when choosing a pre-filter... is it compatable with diesel, what is rated flow and what is it's micron value. I ended up with a Earl's screen type in line filter, filters down to 35 microns and flows at a rated 5-6 GPM. Provides ample protection from debris and easily cleaned by removing the filter and hosing out the screen with a can of brake clean. Only problem with the Earl's filter is that they have -AN male fittings on each end, not a problem unless you want to adapt it the 3/8 rubber fuel line. A simple cure is to pick up a short legnth of bradied SS line and three fittings, one Earl's compresion fitting to adapt to the hard line,a female hose end to adapt to the filter and a 3/8"NPT to -AN fitting for the pump inlet. All are available at either site listed below. You can choose from either -8AN or -6AN for the filter size and appropiate fittings. Guessing here on the size of the inlet/outlet of the Carter pumps but I believe they are 3/8" NPT female.
