Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) fuel filter change gone Bad

Guy's changed fuel filter tonight on my friends 2002 did the usual turn key on and off 3 times it ran for 2 seconds then died need help a. s. a. p. Thanks Don

I know how to do that.......

Crack the line at the VP, crank for a second(THIS WILL RUN THE LIFT PUMP FOR 20 SEC), then tighten the bango after air escapes and fuel starts to squirt.

Crank for a bit and should start.

Open the banjo bolt on the line that goes from the filter housing to the pump. You dont have to take it out, just open it a few turns. Then hit the key just enough to bump the engine over, that will make the lift pump cycle. You may have to do this a few times, but when you get fuel and no bubbles tighten the bajo back up and it should start. Good luck.

After bumping the starter and running the lift pump, you might try loosening a fuel line nut at the head to let some air bleed while you crank over.



Make sure to be out of the way of the fuel while cranking.

I've been prefilling the filter cup before putting the filter back in, I bump the starter once then she starts and runs fine.



Is this OK to do?

akdrifter, If filling the fuel filter housing work's for you great it has to beat the sick:--) felling in your stomach when your friend's 02 wont start :eek after you told him it would only take fifteen minuet's to do a filter change,but thank's to every one here we where running in fourtyfive minuet'sOo. Oo. Oo. I just hope it dosen't happen again. Don

The problem with changing the fuel filter, is when you are finished, there is a pocket of air in the top of the filter housing that has nowhere to go. I leave the top slightly loose, bump the starter and let the lift pump push the air out. Messy, but it starts and runs the first time. Make sure the lift pump has stopped running and the o'ring is seated, before putting the final torque on the lid.

filling the bowl is fine, as long as you DO NOT POUR UNFILTERED FUEL INTO THE CENTER OF THE CARTRIDGE! Sticking the filter up and then puting up the almost filled bowl is certainly OK.



But burping the banjo like the others said is easiest for me. I don't even try to start it on the first try. Just keep bumping untill you have good solid fuel flow from the banjo, tighten and start for real.
