Simple question. . I'm new to the diesel community and already love my CTD, and I don't want to start tripping codes and such. How do you change the fuel filter without getting air into the lines. Is it a simple unplugging the sensor and unscrewing? Should I have some fuel on stanby to aid in priming it back up? Thanks for the help.

There's a couple ways , not sure if you have a cartrage or canister filter , when I change any filter , fuel or oil [ canister ] I prefill the filter , wait a moment , fill more , until the level stays at the top , your truck has a electric fuel pump so you can finish the prime by turning the key to the on pos. [ not start ] and wait till the sound of the pumps stop [ maybe 10 sec. ] do the a few times , then start , not having one of the newer trucks , you may hear better advice from others , this is genaric .
With the VP pump in your truck make sure to get at least a fuel pressure gage , the lift pumps are not relyable , then when they go out and starve the VP pump , that will kill the VP , I've read that the VP can keep the truck starting and runnig after the LP dies , so as to make you think everything is ok ,till the VP dies .

Before we fully open the canister, we loosen the lid, and open the petcock to drain excess fuel and water out of the filter housing before we remove the old filter... .

We drop in a new filter... . leave the cap loose and cycle the switch a couple of time to fill the canister and push out the air... in some cases we run a little fuel on the ground but this has not been a problem... . We than tightened the lid and start the truck...

On some of the older trucks there is a hand pump that will help you prime it.....

Thanks guys. yeah, I know about the lift/transfer pump problems with my year. I'm working on the cash flow for a bypass and guages for everything. I appreciate the help.

You buy a 12 pack of Pabst Blue ribbon beer, and put your new parts on the front seat and drive out to newport news and look up TDR member dzldpatriot. He will work on the 12 pack and guide you through all the steps neccesary, to install your filters and mods
