Hi guys:

I was just curious how often you changed your fuel filters. I couldn't find a maintenance schedule or part # for the filter in the owner's manual, all it says is to drain out the water when the dash light comes on. Currently I have a Baldwin Filter for the fuel and it has been on for ~ 6,000 miles.

Thanks

The owner's manual recomends changing it every 12000 miles, but I would do it before 10000 miles, or earlier if it gets too restrictive. I use the Fleetguard FS1232 (available from Geno's).

hey just found out that if you go to your nearest cummins store you can get a filter kit comes with 2 oil filters 1 fuel and an air filter for 32$ all fleetguard good deal in my eyes... ...

I don't know if anyone else has done this as I've never seen it posted on in TDR threads, but I installed a small see-through type fuel filter.

4 reasons why I did this:

1) It lets me see the general overall condition of the fuel filtering.

2) It gives me an idea whether the fuel I am getting is good or full of crud. And believe me I have have seen lots of crud. While I'm under the hood checking my oil I also check this filter.

3) It prefilters out the large crud before it hits the main filter.

4) It's a cheap check. (only $4 cdn) so why not???

Note that alot of high performance vehicles use this extra see-through filter, so I can't take credit for it.

Note also if you are going to install one of these it goes into the low pressure side and the input/output inside diameters of the filter should be the same as that for your fuel line. I have mine located just before the lift pump.

Gotta protect the investment!

Are you talking about a regular plastic universal gas filter or what?

I change mine with every oil change, every 6000 miles.

I'm using amsoil's 15w40 syntheic diesel oil and their full flow and bypass filters.

Also send a oil sample off to be checked.

Scot

Just called a fuel filter. Can be used for all fuels. It's generic.

I attached a picture below.

I found a performance filter the other day made of Chrome and Glass with changeable filter element. I think I'm going to get one on the next change out.

TTT :)

I was going to wait to change my fuel filter when I drove out to CO. at around 15000. I have 10k now and based on the responses I should probably change it before I leave.

Also when you bump the starter does that mean you turn it to start for just a 1/2 second? and then leave the ignition on to let the fuel pump cycle?
