Last week I changed my fuel filter for the first time. The first filter change was done by a dealer, cost was outrageous, and I would rather do my own work anyway. I was in a hurry so I kind of rushed through the job. I loosened the filter cover, and slowly lifted out the filter. I did not drain the filter housing. I did, however, do a visual inspection of the fuel (I know I can see down to a micron!). I took a 2000 mile trip over the next 4 days, and I am now going to change the filter again. I know this won't make up for the rush job I did before (stupid), but will give me a chance to do it right this time. My question is, does anyone see any negative RAMifications to what I did? The truck ran great the whole trip, no difference in fuel milage. I drove straight through from Salem, OR to LA, CA. 965 miles. Turned around two days later and did the same home. Great Truck!

The truck is a 2001. 5, QC, 4x4 LB, all stock. I have just purchased a Mag Hytec DD trans pan, and am going to order a set of guages tomorrow.

Sounds good. The only thing that I would have added is changing the O-ring on the filter housing cap. Fleet includes one with the purchase of their filter. I lubricate it with diesel before I put it on. Make sure that you don't crack the cap when tightening or loosening. Make sure that you use the 1 1/8 ( I think) socket instead of the 1/2 hole in the cap. The new caps have a round hole to make sure that you don't make that mistake. Cycle the key a few times and let the electric fuel pump fill up the housing and then fire up. I usually change the filter with every oil change. I had a pump go bad on a 94 that I had and don't take chances with my 01. The filter is too easy to change on the newer rigs. On my 94 I always lost skin. I don't miss that process at all!

I know that you probably have checked everything by now, however' , the homeowner will probably rip apart all of our meticulous detailing. I agree with the homeowner as they are spending $400k +, and they are also having 'buyers remorese".

You 'Supers" are fullfilling your job discription! My hat's off to you!

Bob!
