I have changed out my filter on my 99 at least a dozen times. I put some new diesel in the canister and use the key to bump the lp to refill the system. That being said is it possible to bleed the air out of the system WITHOUT using the lp as in bad lp. Can the canister be mostly filled and a line cracked at the filter to bleed the air and the engine be cranked with the starter to get the engine started. I realize one would have to go easy with the starter as it produces alot of heat. Will the truck start or not what are your thoughts?Inquiry minds need to know? Thanks

Well, my experience with this situation is that yes, it can be done. before I put a FP gauge on my truck, I changed the fuel filter. After getting the new filter in place, I couldn't get the truck started. I ended up filling the housing with fuel and then ended up having to crack the supply side fitting on the housing as well as the delivery side. I ended up spilling a bunch of fuel all over, but I got the truck running. After this incident, I got a FP gauge, installed it, and then realized that I had no FP. I immediately went and purchased a new LP from NAPA.

I can't remember how long I let the engine crank for, but it wasn't too long. It did take a little bit to get it going, but it eventually ran. i realize that you're probably aware that you'll need to get a new LP, but you should be able to get it running.

Try taking the two plugs out of the top of the filter and use a reeaallly small funnel, insert it into one of the plug holes and fill it slowly until the fuel comes out of the other hole and your air should be bled out of the canister... . works for me... .

Thanks for the replys gents. The funnel idea is a good one to remember. I,m running on my RASP right now the stock lift pump is toasted but I do not know why and I will change asap but nice to know it would start if I opened the system uo and was just running on the RASP. Thanks
