I guess that this is a pretty stupid question, but I am curious. This evening I put a new drain hose on my fuel filter and rerouted it to get it to drain on the ground instead of on my front end. Once I was done I was going to drain it a little but nothing came out. It sounded like it was draining but nothing came out. I would appreciate some information because I am confused.

Thanks in advance,

Eric

Sometimes the filter air locks much like picking up water with your finger over the end of a straw and you need to either bump the starter or open a bleed to let the diesel flow. Be careful draining diesel around asphalt, it melts it.

longer hose

I changed my hose too. I usually have to leave the drain lever open for about 30sec to 1 min to get the air seal to break. Once it does it drains real easy. I usually wait for the water to stop, and fuel to start draining, count to 2, for good measure and close it. Sometimes it helps on mine to lift the lever and then push it slightly past open, like on a big coffee machine. Seems to get it going quicker. When I'm done, bump the start once and she's all set.

BTW I have never gotten more than maybe a thimble full of water out of the filter, and that with a drain of about once every month to month and half. I run Stanadyne Performance and was told that this may be the reason. Never got a WIF light either.

Hope this helped.
