Help! Fuel filter drain leaks!

What thickness (in mm) is the crappy yellow O ring on the drain plug for the fuel filter housing on a 2008 6. 7L. Mine tore to pieces when I loosened the plug to drain some fuel this morning. Fuel spray out of the filter housing was fairly vigorous... . arrgh!

A 20 cent part defeats a 30K truck yet again.....

When was the last time that you have changed your fuel filter? Cummins has redesigned the filter housing and filter last year. I believe there were two reasons for the redesign, one was improved filtration, 5 micron VS 7 Micron of the older one and the other was the drain valve. Most of us with the older 6. 7L fuel filter never could get them tight after they were open and then they leaked.

The new filter is sold with a new housing and you can get just a filter now to fit the new housing, see write up in the Turbo Diesel Register from last year. The new filter housing and filter part number is FS43257, $49. 95 (FleetGuard) and the filter only is FS43258 $36. 95 (FleetGuard). These are from Geno's Garage.

By the way these trucks are considered 3 gen the 2010 is 4th gen.

Dealer fixes it.

Thanks all. I looked up info on the 6. 7L forum. The dealer came and towed it in and is changing the filter housing under warranty.
