I am about to change fuel filter and I found the directions on the forum how to do it. Just wondering if there is any advice out there on the procedure before I start?
I push a small size garbage bag down next to the filter houseing and transfer the filter from the housing directly to the bag. Then pull the bag out and there is very little mess or leakage.
I tried to change mine today(1998. 5) and couldn't even get the water in fuel connection to come off. Had to remove filter, replace, without getting the cannister three inches from the head. then tightened up the cannister, tried to start, had to bleed then started right up. any trick in removing the elec connection so I can remove cannister completely? thanks.
Lately I don't even drain any diesel or fill any either. Just pull the old one out look into the canister (it's always clean as a whistle) and push the new one down in. Fires right up too.

I'd drain the canister first. Its the particles that you dont see that can hurt you in the long run. 40 micron might be hard to notice but your VP and injectors will notice when they have to pass them and destroy them upon injection. Just a precaution.
Just did a fuel filter change the other day for the first time. It took me a whopping 10 minutes if that. Thanks to the members on this forum, their advice is priceless!!!!
Did the fuel filter change yesterday and all went well. Thanks to all for your specific instructions. Even had the wife working on it. She held a bottle under the drain tube for me while I turned the drain valve. Nothing like getting the spouse involved!
