fuel filter issue?

So I am out changing the oil/filter & fuel filter on my truck yesterday(every 4-5K)... pull the cap off the filter housing and find that the Wix fuel filter element has delaminated from the plastic top of the filter that is retained in the lid of the filter housing. Maybe this was due to running a tankfull of B-50 this week, but regardless it makes me nervous about the situation. I popped the plastic top of the filter from the lid and replaced w/ a fleetguard 7 micron from Geno's. Just wondering if anyone would think that the biodiesel caused the glue between the filter top & pleated element to let go? Regardless, I am back to fleetguard for my filters... . as this was never an issue before, regardless of how much bio( B-5 to B-99) that was run through my truck over the past 160K.

Biodiesel has different solvent properties than diesel. It will clean your entire fuel system of any crud and will degrade natural rubber fuel lines over time. I may be wrong but, depending on the type of glue used the bio may have helped it come loose. I used to run B100 in my truck every summer when I could get it and never had an issue with Fleetguard filters coming apart.

I see alot of posts about saving $5. 00 here and $10. 00 there when it comes to filters and oil. I don't know about every one else out there, but I spent alot of money for my truck and I don't understand why owners cheeep out on the most critical maintinance on their truck. Stick with Fleetguard and Valvoline as recomended by Cummins. As for the biodiesel, you should be using a pre filter/water seperator befor the factory filter. When I started running BIO I was amazed how much crap was in my fuel system. And I thought that I had enough filters that how dirty can it really be. IT REALLY CLEANS AS OTHERS SAY. Now that Im over that part of BIO I really like it. IT's getting cold so back on the reg diesel.

I am not sure if the Wix is rated for bio or not, but it sounds like not... I do know for sure that the Wix does NOT meet OEM standards for fuel filtration and shouldn't be used simply based on that.

The best fuel filter available (and the only one to meet Bosch specs) is the Baldwin PF7977.

Gentlemen-thanks for the replies. I agree w/ the theory of the wix filter and adhesive being incompatible w/ bio. I am the orig owner of the truck and it has been all fleetguard filters from day one and this one deviation was a learning lesson.
