How I fixed my leaking 98. 5 fuel filter.

It leaked out of the black plug on top which is the fuel heater. Remove the fuel filter, 2 bolts hold it to the engine, 2 banjo bolts for fuel lines, 2 electrical connections. Take off the filter canister before removing the fuel filter housing. In the top of the filter housing is a fuel heater held in with 3 screws, undo these. The black plug will push in but leave the 2 wires attached. The black plug has a washer around it which you can carfully pry out and move up to the wire side. Clean everything with Paint Thinner.

I used Permatex Ultra Black, PX #82180 and put a thin coated on the black plug and some in the recessed area where the washer goes. Slide the washer back in place, push the black plug into the filter top, reinstall the 3 screws. I let it sit for 24 hours before reinstalling the fuel filter. Make sure you install new banjo bolt washers (4). This whole fix cost me about $12 where the Dodge dealer wanter over a $1000 for a new fuel filter.
