Getting prepared for routine maintenance (72k km) next weekend. The inspection calls for replacing the fuel filter. Did a quick search to familiarize myself with the operation and fell upon this well written process (link) .

I tried my 1-1/8" socket and it would not fit. Looked at the socket end of the cap more carefully and figured it out. Looks like the previous owner, or where ever he had it serviced was either using a Vise-Grip wrench or his teeth for that matter. The socket end points were all chewed up.

I called the local Dodge dealer for a new lid, they said no can do, it comes with the entire filter housing assembly, they wanted a bit more then $400 for the part. I told him he could keep it. Called Cummins East in Montreal, and they had the lid for less then $15. A no brainer. Part was shipped from the warehouse and in my hands the next day. These guys stay open till midnight Monday thru Thursday... amazing !

The Fleetguard lid PN is 392675800S. And my 6pt 1-1/8" socket fits, not snug, or loose, just right. Curious that Geno's is selling a 29mm socket for this part. I don't see it working. Here's a pic of the lid.

Oo. Genos also sells a lid made of polished stainless with a 1/8th inch NPT port for fuel pressure monitoring. Theres takes a 3/4" socket and does not have those stupid fingers that hold the filter. I costs a little more at $59. 00.

29mm = 1. 1417"

1-1/8"= 28. 575mm

it is close enough to work fine for the tightness/torque that cap needs

It is actually anodized aluninum and it is machined by a member right here in the 909.....

I second the aluminum cover from Genos. That darn is one solid heavy piece of metal. Don't wait to get rid of that cheap plastic one like I did and then wind up 800 miles away from home with no parts houses for miles.
