Looks identical to mine. Ok glad to know my truck probably didn’t do that. Mine was a mopar, but the new fleet guard I just put in was not like that.

FYI, the Mopar filters are Fleetguard filters. It should say Fleetguard or Cummins right on the top of the filter.

That’s what I had read, thanks! Wonder if this is just a weird batch?

I honestly don't know but I would guess it may be from the curing process. The end caps are fastened to the filter element with an epoxy resin and then go through an oven to cure the epoxy and permanently bond the end caps.

JR - you obviously have a defective filter from new. Send it to me so I can verify and test it on my truck for 10K miles and I'll send it back to you with my results from testing it.

From what I know of filter manufacturing - which isn't much - an epoxy resin is used to bond the filter media to the end caps. The filter then goes through an oven to cure the resin. My guess, and its only a guess, you are seeing a slight discoloration of the resin from the curing process.

Funny, I wouldn't have given it a second look in the first place. Kinda like noticing that the exhaust has a little dark color to it.
