I priced a fuel filter at a dodge dealer, #5015581AB $44. 45

Genos- FS19579 $12. 95. Are these the same filter? Why such a large difference?

2000 1 ton

Same filter. Why? Because they're GIVING trucks away and have to make MONEY somewhere!

Bend over. That's why we call 'em 5 STAR (edited by moderator)! Something that rhymes with the Pittsburg football team but is spelled different and is now FORBIDDEN to say on these forums).

They also get 300+ for the same LP that Cummins sells for 150. And 50 bucks for a relay that can be bought at Radio(wanna buy a cell phone?)Shack for 5.

The list goes on and on. Shop around and 98. 5 times out of 100 the butts at D/C (edited by me) will be beyond reason on their prices. :-{}

My '5' star Dodge _ealer also wants $45 for a fuel filter. I personally pick them up at 'Cummins West' for about $16, with my 'Powerbooster' discount. My _ealer also wants $3000+tax for a VP44 injection pump, (and he will not commit to telling me if it is a New or a Rebuilt) labor NOT included :--) I told the parts guy that 'Cummins West' only wants $1200, and he told me that "that's where we make our money!" (They also quoted $1000 labor!!!= $4K)

I was actually able to buy, thanks to this forum,(Thank you Mr. Patton) a Brand NEW pump for $750 from a 'dealer supplier' in Texas, and it has performed GREAT since Monday night!

Ask any accountant and they''ll tell you to be successful in business you need to make a least 40% profit. You are blaming the dealer when in fact the culprit is DC! Some Chrysler corp vehicles use Mitsubishi engines, one of the engines is the 2. 5 litre V-6. Spark plug wire for the 2. 5 list for $163. 00, and are no longer even Mitsubishi parts, the OEM Mitsubishi wire for the SAME engine are $63. 00, less than dealer cost on the aftermarket equivelent. If DC is sticking it to your dealer charing the dealer more than retail, how can the dealer compete with Cummins directly for Cummins parts? Go buty your stuff elsewhere ( maybe this will send a message to DC) But DON"T blame the dealer for the prices.

as posted many times here... go to Peterbuilt or Case or any of the equipment guys who use our motors and you'll often beat the Cummins price, the "other" guys get a big discount and usually pass some of it on... so you get a real deep discount, but as usual BUYER BEWARE and ask first.

I had that motor in my 1995 Chrysler Cirrus LX... . nothing but problems.

Is there a gmpartsdirect.com type site for mopar parts? That would be another good way of getting things at cost.

Well, I too paid my dues to the 5 Star. $58. 00 thank you very much for the MOPAR filter. Know what Star spells backward??? :D Guess I'll have to be careful about my dyslexic tendencies.

Thanks for the info. I will order one from Genos, my local tractor dealer dont stock em but if order they come 12 per box, that could last longer than the truck.

I asked that 5 star the cost of a oil change in the front and rear diff, transfer & 5sp transmission. I about fell over. $600. since I am able to do the LABOR myself he got it down to $117. 55 for all the oils.

Try your local John Deere dealer... ours always has Fleetg filters in stock for the trucks. . fuel and oil... The have been better in price than the local cummins dealer. . and if you order them in December or Feb. . U get a discount... (check the local dealer for the discount months)

YES, it's called mopar4less.com--but you have to call them. They don't respond to email.

And GENO'S has the full line of Fleetguard filters for our trucks- and other stuff. Like the door sill guards, seatcovers, and under seat lockbox that I have installed. I also have a Rob Thomas console. The brushguard, toolbox, chrome rails, and diamond caps came on the truck. I got my adjustible ball hitch at CO-OP.

After reading all the horror stories from members changing their own fuel filters I decided to let the dealership change mine the first time. The mechanic was very helpful and explained the entire process as I watched. Everything went smooth as butter and the truck fired up on the first try. They charged me $45 for the filter and the labor was free. I'll probably continue to let the dealer do the filter changes. It's messy and I don't want any future lift pump or vp44 failures pinned on improper fuel filter changes.

Just my 2 cents...

I'll be danged if I ever thought I would say it, but you're right, that's not a bad deal.

I mean I'd never do it, but if you figure 15 for the filter and 30 for the labor and no #2 on your fingers. And a certified witness when the LP fails to refill the canister. :p Okay deal.

I'll keep buying the 12-buck filters and putting the other 30 towards BOMB's and beer and BBQ.

And Mom's 99 is a BEEotch compared to the top-loading 00, 01, 02.
