Hi everyone.

I have a question about my fuel filter canister. I am a new tdr member and just changed the fuel filter for the first time. It wasn't too bad but I was wondering why there was a plastic tie around the drain valve? The tie was so tight that I couldn't operate the drain until I cut it off. Did the truck come from the factory with the tie? I'm just wondering because that would mean that the truck didn't have a fuel filter change in the last 37000 miles . Oh well, its done now.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Merry Christmas.

Nate

Sorry, forgot to mention. It is a 97' 4X4 2500 . Thanks.

Welcome to the TDR!.

What year is your DC? That may make a difference. I don't recall if my 1996 had a wire tie. I had the dealer replace the fuel filter at the second oil change, just to be sure that all the break-in particles (if any) went away.

Never seen a tie around the valve. I'm thinking it was someone's solution to a leaking valve. The valve doesn't cost much and is available separately from the dealer or Cummins.

Plastic Tie

I guess I should clarify. The plastic tie was just wrapped around the post below the valve handle. It wasn't holding anything together. It just made it so that I couldn't open the valve without cutting the plastic tie off. I can't figure what it could have possibly been for. Its not leaking either now that I have it off. Thanks for the replies.
