Filter change and locations didn't change on the newer trucks did they???

I've got my fuel filter change regimen down to about 20 minutes total, hardest part is getting under the back to change the separator/filter.

My filter change kit...
#ad

Don't know why it won't let my pic show...

Do I have to change both (fuel filter and water separator) or just the fuel filter?
Yeah, the schedule says to change both each time. If you want to maintain your warranty then that is the thing to do.

As to where to get the filters, I have bought almost all of mine off amazon and never got any fakes. You won't get fake stuff if you buy filters that say OEM mopar or fleetguard and buy from known trusted sellers. Buy most of my OEM filters from RAM dealers selling on amazon.

I still can't figure out how to remove the rear filter without making a huge mess. How do you get all the fuel out of the filter?
In my post above with the pic of my fuel filter change kit, you see the yellow cut off laundry soap jug, that is my drain bucket for the rear filter. It sits perfectly on top of the rear driveshaft, leaning against the fuel tank, under the filter drain. You then open the drain and let the filter start to drain, and then while it is draining you use the filter wrench to loosen the filter a turn or two, breaking the seal loose from the filter mount, this allows the fuel to drain from the filter without syphoning more fuel out of the supply line to the tank.
Once the fuel drains down, close the drain valve, lower the drain bucket and remove the filter.
Using this procedure I hardly ever get any fuel spill, maybe a few drips from the filter mount onto the driveshaft.

My issue is that no matter how long I let it sit and drain, and even if I spin the filter off a few turns to get air in it...there's still a ton of fuel in it and it makes a mess.

And there’s nothing wrong at all with Gene’s.....or your support for them. If you went through air, fuel, oil, and transmission filters like I do.....you’d comparison shop maybe a litttttttttttle bit more.
EXACTLY.
With 572.5K miles on my truck in less than 6 years, changing filters every 15K, I've bought LOTS of filters, and saved a LOT of money buying from amazon sellers instead of other companies.
And, it is quite different buying from amazon sellers than it is buying good supplied and sold directly by amazon.

Don't know what to tell you, don't know what you should be doing differently.
I have changed the filters dozens of times and never make a big mess.
Once the filter is off, there will still be fuel in it, you just have to dump it out wherever you dump your fuel from the drain bucket.
