I haven't seen any posts re: replacing fuel filters. On the Amsoil site I see that a fuel/water separating filter is about $200! How can you tell if mine needs to be replaced, how frequently is a new filter needed and what type,mfr. of filters are the best?

I'm about to hit 150,000 - yahoo! Time to send in a photo.

I change the fuel filter about every 3rd oil change. They run about $14 Cdn. at Cummins. Takes about 10 min to change.

oh ya, they ones at Cummins are by Fleetgaurd.

For $200, the filter better change itself and buy beer!!!

Thanks, Lil'Dog;

I noticed on your tag (not dog tag) that you have installed special Bosch headlights. Are those the high intensity ones? What's involved in installing them? I heard that you have to beef up your electrical wiring, fuses, etc. for them?

I change mine about the same as LilDog. Usually go 10,000 to 15000 miles then replace. Figure the filter is cheap insurance. The duration sorta depends on if I get any water in the fuel or if I'm getting ready to go on a trip towing the trailer. If there is 10K or so and getting ready to tow, then a new filter goes on. General driving I'll stretch a little farther.

:) Hey bud, on my 92 I use Fleetguard no. fs1232 fuel filters every other oil change and keep one in the truck for emergency use or someone on the road. Be sure to bleed the fuel system of air to avoid a air problem in the system. Good luck! Tim :) :) :)

Bright Idea... Ok not funny.

I've been getting alot of questions about those lights.

They are nothing too trick, been around for years. Bosch makes a headlight system that is a lense that holds H4 bulbs. I got my system at Canadian Tire, I know that most 4X4 shops sell these kits but are going the way of the dinosaur.

After you have the kit then you can just find any H4 bulb you can find LOL. . The current bulbs I have are stretching my lighting system, I already toasted a switch. I have to upgrade the wiring harness, but have not yet figured out the Daytime running lights to not trigger an external relay.

Anyway, I really like the light pattern, great in snow or rain. The pattern keeps the light down on the road without any upward reflection on low beam. I would have to draw the pattern or take a picture to fully describe it.

I hope this helps.
