What a time not to have the search. I am going on vacation in 2 days and need to change the fuel filter. If someone could please walk me through on how to remove and reinstall the filter and anyproblems with bleeding air and starting again. My truck is a 01 3500 with 13000 miles. The roundtrip will be about 4000 mi.

It's been pushing 90 degs. here so I'm going to Minnisota to see some snow. Thanks

Ok, Here it is,

First drain the bowl a bit with th fuel/water drain lever on the left front side. just lift up...

then Using a 1 1/8" wrench or a big cresent wrench, unscrew the cap using the hex in the center. The filter is connected to the cap so unsrew and pull up. it is on a post so there will be a little resistance. fuel will drain from the center of the filter for a few seconds so wait a bit.

once out, you pry off the filter off the lid by lifting up on one side with a scewdriver carefully not to break the keepers.

push on new filter onto lid. replace the o-ring on the lid threads, use a little diesel to lube 0-ring

pour the fuel you drained at the start back into the bowl then push in filter assbly. srew carefully the lid so the o-ring will seat and not bunch up. Tighten tight but not too tight... .

Go and bump the starter and let the pump run. do this 2 times. it should start and stay running.

Thats it!

I performed this maintenance Monday and that's exactly how I did it as well. I'll say this, though, that filter cover is HARD to get off the first time. It was on there TIGHT. I tightened it up about 1/8 turn past hand tight. No leaks yet. Heck, it only has to hold back ~15psi... unless you've BOMB'ed your lift pump.

AZ Pete,

It is supposed to be a balmy 48 degrees  in the Twin Cities today so you better hammer down if you want to see any snow :D It will be gone shortly! Oo.

Have a safe trip!
