I just put my 2nd fuel filter in my 2001 2500 (I bought the truck last Sep)
I have bought both from Auto Zone, the puralator brand. When I put the last one in I had a heck of a time getting the cap to seat back on (took over an hour) & then even though I had filled the container with fresh fuel & turned the key but not turn the engine, I had to jump start her with wd-40.
Well tody when I went to change the filter, I followed the same procedure & she started right up, but I did do one thing different.
I still had a heck of a time getting the cap to seat (screw-in), I noticed a rubber grommet on the bottom of the filter (around the hole that the post in the middle of the cartridge goes into) well I removed the rubber grommet (not the "O" ring that fits onto the cap) & the cap screwed right on with no resistance.
My question is: Will I do any harm by leaving the grommet out?
The truck is operating as normal, ie good fuel pressure, running, driveability.
Thanks
