Can I tell the type filter it is while still on the truck? I have looked all over and cannot see any part numbers, other than the Cummins logo, with it installed. I would like to have the filter on hand when I go to change it. It looks like it will be tough to change it. Can hardly even see it from the top of the engine compartment.

There are several old threads including a "how to do it" you can find and read with a search. The OEM filter on an '07 has a square hole in the bottom center of the cannister that allows you to insert a 1/2" drive socket drive on a long extension to reach up and remove it from under the truck. Don't forget to disconnect the wiring harness connector. Some members prefer to remove the inner fender panel on the driver's side but it is not mandatory.

Remove it and examine it. It should be a replaceable cannister with built-in filter unless it has been retrofitted with the later design.

Used the mirror and found my truck has the 633 shell, so I just need the filter itself. Thanks for the help - love this website!!

Good. The TDR is the best source of information available. We often give incorrect answers and bad opinions but someone always knows and offers the correct answer.

I knew nothing about turbodiesel engines in 2001 when I bought one and joined TDR. What I have learned over the years has come mostly from TDR.
