The torque specs for the fuel filter top housing on a 2001 must be a 'best kept secret'. I could not find the specs on the box the filter comes in, the Dodge owners manual, nor the Haynes repair manual. Since the black top housing that holds the filter

seems to be plastic, I am a little leary to tighten it much more than snug. Any ideas what the real torque should be or where I can find it?

Thanks

Yeah... be careful with it - even though it's high tensile strength plastic.

I usually go with about 20 ft lbs - and that feels a little risky. No leaks, though.

torque setting for fuel filter housing

thanks for the numbers

I will try 15 and if that doesn't seal it then 20 foot pounds. There is a sticker on the housing lower part that displays information but not the torque settings. I don't think it would be hard to have the torque numbers on the housing somewhere easy to find.

I believe that you'll find Tighten to 25 ft-lb max molded into the top if you look carefully. I go with 15 foot-pounds.

Thomas,

thanks, I will look next time. I thought I carefully cleaned and checked over the housing top but I must have missed the information.

I always tighten mine up to 25 ft-lbs after a filter change. It sure does seem like I may break the cap when loosing at the next filter change. I think I will try 20 ft-lbs next time.

DHatfield,

Thanks, It was tight when I took it off. I guess I am cautious of going too tight with plastic. My '91. 5 had the spin on filter similar to a small oil filter and it was metal. Very easy to change. I need to get comfortable with the new filters.
