Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) fuel filter

fuel filter got plugged today first time since I have owned the truck. I was passing a truck and the my truck just hung at 2450 rpm and then the white smoke . Got home changed the filter and back in business. I usually just change the filter every year , maybe I should change it sooner.

I has been suggested that you change your fuel filter every other oil change. I have been doing that for years and have had no problems.

Unless you are putting on a lot of miles each year, doing a yearly change should be fine. Did you cut the filter open or look at why it clogged? You could have gotten a bad batch of fuel, somehow stirred up the sediment in your tank, or have a larger problem like algae.

To have no problems you need to use top of the line filters! Like FleetGuard! From Genos Garage

I use fleetgard filters (From Geno's) and have changed the fuel filter four times in 90000 miles, I use the fleetgard Oil filters from Geno's with synthetic Oil and change at 7500 miles. Bought my Truck new in 98' and it is a great truck, although it was a California truck and after breaking two EGR tubes I removed the tube and haven't had a problem from that day on.
