Fuel Filter

I’ve been getting acquainted with my new truck and you guys have been invaluable.

Just passed 2000 miles so I decided to check and drain the water separator. I found the hose end just below the frame rail. Following the owners manual I rotated the lever on the filter housing ¼ turn counter clockwise, but nothing drained out. Should there be discharge even if no water is present?

open and close the lever couple of times. Then leave the lever up

and it should drain

Did they change the levers on the 02s? Mine lifts up to open not clockwise or visa-versa.

Well Chuck maybe that's the ... I'll have to look again.

It Sticks

Just like RustyTRanch said... The valve sticks sometimes... If you wiggle it enough it will open and YES... fuel will come out...

Schrader valve

If it still doesn't flow out, take the black cap off the Schrader valve at the rear of the filter housing. Then push in the valve and it should flow. Assuming that there are still Schrader valves on the 02's.

Stopped by a local diesel shop today he rotated the leaver counter clockwise... nothing, then he had me bump the motor... fuel LOTS of fuel!!! but no water



Guess we've found another 02 change.
