Hi All,Well I had too break down and spend almost $50. 00 dollars on a $5. 00 dollar fuel filter from the dealer!!! Whats up with this. Is there any one else that carries this filter ,or do we have too get ripped off from our friendly 5 star dealer!! I thought maybe napa would have this for sure but they told me it's strictly a dealer part?Any help would be greatly appriciated. I don't mind spending good money on my trucks maintenance but this filter is a joke. TIA:mad:

Thanks, now I feel better. I knew we were getting ripped off , but thats a real difference. Next time I will buy from geno's and save about $30. 00 a filter. I love it americans ripping off americans,ya gota love it.

Genos is very good, with GREAT service. If it saves you a trip across town, having it delivered to your door checks out very competitively on the $$$. If you happen to see a "Cummins" sign when driving past a big truck place pull in and ask for a Fleetguard filter (but know what part number you want - probably an FS-19528 if your signature is correct ('98 24V). Fleetguard is affiliated with Cummins, so it will protect you against any potential warranty issues. Since posting prices might violate policy, I'll say it this way: Your instincts were right, you paid at least 3 times more than Genos would charge, and some trucking parts counters might even beat Geno's by another 1 to 3 dollars.

One more tip - Don't buy just one! I keep one in the truck at all times, 3 or more on long trips. If you ever get one bad batch of fuel, you can go through that many filters in a day or two. Rare, but it happens.

HC is right. Check out the big rig shops. The local Peterbilt dealer here in Eureka sells Fleetguard filters and they are on the shelf on the way to the parts counter. Prices are a little better than Geno's. Can't beat that!

I bought mine from NAPA it sounds like you have a bunch of rocket scientist working there anyway I got mine from NAPA and didnt have problem one!

hastings also makes a repalacement filter, and baldwin too, i think. don't have the numbers but wherever they sell those filters should be able to cross reference.....

forgot to add wix, who make the napa, i think...

The Napa Gold filters are Wix. If the blue paint comes off a Fleetguard fuel filter you will see Wix written underneath. The numbers on the bases are also the same. Just because you pay more doesn't mean you're getting any better of a filter.

The filter in question is an element and not a cartridge. It would not surprise me to find a filter that was rebadged, but in this case a spade is a spade. The mopar filter is a Fleetguard, same as you get from Geno's or your local Fleetguard (Cummins) dealer in this case.

Filter Costs

Got the oil filter for just under $10. 00 and the fuel filter for just under $18. 00 from the Cummins Dealer (Fleetguard). (Reno).

My "local" Cummins dealer (and they're a great bunch!) happens to be very inconveniently located across town. But just down the road about four miles is the Kenworth facility. They carry Fleetguard of all types (BHAF for instance) , have the best prices I've found in the KC area - and they're open 24 X 7. It doesn't get much better... !

There is also a Group Purchase in the classified's for Fleetguard filters and other products carried through FleetPride.

Fleetguard P/N: LF3894 Stratapore Oil Filter for 24v…………. $ 7. 89

Fleetguard P/N: FS19579 Fuel Filter for year 00 +…. . …………$ 14. 18

BigDaddy,

I just looked at my last receipt for filters. That's the price I paid that the last time I bought oil filters from the local Peterbilt shop. I bought two Stratapore filters so it wasn't much of a group. Try the big rig shops. The prices are right and there is usually one of them close by.

Joe,

Glad you got a good price:D No all of us have been so fortunate.

When I bought filters from my Cummins dealer, each time it was a different price for the same P/N filter. The price seemed dependant on who was working the counter that day

I have found that FleetPride has the better pricing than any of my other sources.

I've bought a few filters from Cummins West in Sacramento. Their prices are higher than the big rig shops charge. I don't know why. The Cummins place in Sac was so nice I almost stopped to shine my shoes before going in. The Redwood Alliance Peterbilt in Eureka is a big repair shop with four bays in one building and several in another building that does mostly trailer work. The parts store is attached to the truck repair building. Gravel parking lot with big stuff parked all over. Great bunch of guys behind the counter. The Green Monster looks like a runt in that parking lot. The Kenworth shop is just down the street, but they carry Baldwin filters instead of Fleetguard. Both shops will gladly order any Cummins part I want.
