I am going to replace my fuel filter for the first time on my new truck. I called my local DOdge dealer and he wanted $ 44. 00 for a new fuel filter. I called another "parts house" and they give me a price of $ 10. 99 for a replacement fuel filter. The $ 10. 99 special is a Wix brand, and I plan on changing the fuel filter according to severe service recommmendations (7,500 Miles). So my question is, for the price difference wouldn't I be better off buying the Wix filter instead of the Mopar filter, or are the Mopar filters that much better??

I wouldn't buy the WIX brand ! They have poor quality.

The Mopar Fuel Filter is just a relabeled Fleetguard filter. I would head over to Cummins (or Geno's) and purchase the fleetguard filter.

Added on Edit: Fleetguard filter from Geno's

This is for a 2000 & up - What year is your truck?

The exact same filter the dealer will sell you can be bought from Cummins for between $11-$16. Dealer just makes a killing on 'em. I don't know about Wix. Some say they're great and some say they 'aint.

I suggest you check the stampings on the plastic ends of the Wix and Mopar filters. I once used a NAPA filter (I was told it was made by Wix. ) and the stampings were absolutely identical to the Mopar filter, which told me all I needed to know. However, it is hard to beat the quality and price of the Cummins filter.

Ditto. Fleetguard. Geno's or local Cummins. Keep spare in truck at all times; several spares if going out of town.
