Ok. When I bought my truck in '92, I had a custom 40 gal. auxillary tank installed in place of the spare. I also installed a FSV-1 fuel selector valve and separate fuel filters for both the new and original tanks. The valve manufacturer required them to protect the valve.

The filters I installed were overkill. I used two GM 8V-92 Diesel primary filters (Ref; Fram P3710) which are also water separators, about 16 micron with a water drain. They happened to be some I had laying around the shop. (OK, so I'm cheap) They have worked very well, and I have never had any water in the Cummins O. E. M. filter

I'm thinking I can dispense with the filter with the Water in Fuel sensor, and would actually like to get a filter with a finer filtration than stock, just as extra protection.

Anyone have a filter number that would meet my wishes, and replace the stock unit?

Thanks, Jack Dancoe

They do , I dont have a number for you but go to your local Napa and they can find it

I have one on one of my rigs because that plastic drain went south on me . I had found a few by going to Wix and looking up filters for a case magnum tractor , so if there is a tractor dealer there is anouther way to do it . But if you cant get one send me a e-mail and ill get it for you . Thanks Donovan

If you want to get rid of the WIF in the original filter on the engine you can use a FLG FF5052 ( metal housing ) or the new FF42000 ( black non metallic housing ) If you want a water separator version then use a FS1251. It has the big drain knob on the bottom. These filters are for the industrial version of the 5. 9 I prefer to use Fleetguard filters ( Cummins filter division ) rather than jobber brands. Shad

Thanks, guys, for the info. I agree, kinda, with Shadrach about Fleetguard filters. However, where I'm located, Fleetguard is hard to come by. Wix/NAPA on the other hand are fairly close. Walking distance when I'm at the Arizona house, and 15 mi. when I'm in Colorado. Geno's is a good source, but they don't list the non-standard numbers I'm looking for.
Thanks again, Jack

One thing to keep in mind on filters there is only 3 manufactures in the country

and most of we think were buying a diffrent brand is made by the same out fit !!!!!

as the numbers are basicly the same with a extra number or digit in most cases

I run an FS1212 fuel water separator (Cummins Part No. 3315843) along with a FF5320 high efficiency 2 micron filter. Works extremely well. Ryder fleet products (google) is a good place to order the filters.

Donovan,
I know what you mean, NAPA branded filters are Wix Filters with the first number removed. I. e - Wix 33123
primary F/F is NAPA 3124.
Eric,
I assume the FF5320 mounts in place of the O. E. M. filter, and the FS1212 remote mounts between the fuel tank and the lift pump, correct? What size is the FS1212? The D/D Primarys (Wix-33123) I'm using now are about the size of the old PH8A lube filters used on the old Ford & Chrysler gas engines, but has a 1"-12 thread. They are pretty common, available just about anywhere.
Thanks, Jack Dancoe

They both mount on a filter head, and the OEM location is bypassed. The filters are large, at about 6 1/2" tall and 3 1/2" diameter. I'll try to get you the filter head part number tomorrow.
