Fuel Filters

Upon going threw the available fuel filters, there seems to be 2 Fleetguard filters available. One is with bypass (I gather a drain) the other is without.



What is the differance if there is a drain or not? Is that to drain water from it? Is it still needed when you have a Dahl auxilery filter before the factory filter so you can see if there is water in the fuel?

Some of the guys here are using filters without the drain. I personally don't feel a drain is necessary. I have never gotten and water out of mine.

Yes your Dahl filter should take out any water before it gets to the on engine filter.

The WIF ( water in fuel ) sensor, located in the drain fitting on a 89-96 Dodge fuel filter, lets you know about water in the fuel If you don't run the correct filter you won't know if there is a problem. In most cases not a big deal, especially if you have another filter first. What filter # are you running instead? Shadrach

I've seen a couple of non water sensor applications. Mostly equipment etc. We've got a Gradall Excavator with two 5. 9's. Neither has WIF/drains. Mostly because they don't have the electronics to support. But I still think a drain is handy for changes.

Finally had a chance to look. Regular Mopar filter in there at the moment, the Fleetgaurd one I was curious about with no drain is FF5052.

FF5052 changes up to the new "composit material " FF 42000 and will work in place of the FS1232. Although it has no water seperator capabilities it does flow better that the FS1232 and has a higher woking pressure. The micron rating is the same. Shadrach
