FUEL FILTERS

I HAVE THE 94 RAM PICKUP. ALWAYS USED THE
FS1253 FUEL FILTER WHICH HAD THE WATER
SEPARATER DRAIN ATTACHED. MY NEW FILTER
{SAME # FS1253) DOES NOT INCLUDE THE WATER
SEPARATER -- THERE IS JUST A HOLE THERE.
CAN I USE MY OLD WATER SEPARATER ON THE NEW
FILTER OR DO I HAVE TO BUY THIS PIECE
SEPARATELY? WILL IT FIT OR AM I IN TROUBLE
IF I REMOVE THE OLD SEPARATER DRAIN AND TRY
TO PUT IT ON THE NEW FILTER?

The filter you are using is the normal non-separator filter. The thing that goes in the hole is the Water In Fuel (WIF) sensor and water drain valve. Unless it is busted it goes in the new filter.

If you do bust the old one you can get a new drain at Dodge or Cummins.

Are saying every time you changed your fuel filter you bought the filter & drain valve combo?

Thats a major waste of money. I still have the original drain valve on my filter. (94, 110,000 miles)

Unless your drain valve is leaking or cracked or broken (like Missouri Mule said) You can reuse it on the new filter. The new filter W/O the drain valve has an O-ring with it for the drain valve.

The drain valve just unscrews (may need pliers) and remove the old 0-ring. Put a little engine oil on the new o-ring and screw it it hand tight.
