cummins is defecting!

Price based on HP??

Okay I sinned and went to the local stealer to buy a fuel filter.

Just out of curiosity, those of you who also have bought one from the dealer, how much did they break it off in you?

I know I can get a better deal from some of the TDR supporting businesses, AND WILL. These two are going back, forget the restocking charge. $45. 09 Each!!!

Exactly! I remembered on the way home that Geno's sold a 4/2/1 kit (or somethng like that) which is less than just the two fuel filters alone.

Just wondering what others who may have bought from the dealer(stealer) were being charged (read - Robbed!).

yup. . 1st time paid about the same for the fuel filter from the stealer...

Soon after Geno's came out with their kits. . WHAT A DEAL!!!!

Every year I buy one kit and use it... end of story.

GENOS, dont ever stop selling these kits!!! one of the best things you decided to carry. I would pay 5 bucks more to have 2 sets of the Orings included in the kit that fleetguard knocked out from suppling with the fuel filters... .

I'm sure fleetguard didnt change their price any , to Genos on the filters even though they excluded the Orings...

Dont throw them out when you change your filter. . you now have to save them.

I usually buy everything from a local Cummins place about 30 miles away. I was in the mood to change the oil the other week and didnt have any oil filters left. I went a mile down the street to the local dealership and they sold me an oil filter for $10. I was surprised it wasnt around 20-30 dollars. I havent priced a fuel filter there though.

I do alot of Mercedes work and I have a place that I get O. E. M. parts for 1/3 to 1/2 what it would cost at the dealer. The only difference is that the MBZ emblem is ground off!

Fuel Filter

Had mine replaced at the dealer today $43. 00- high but I do not know how to work on the truck and I can hold them accountable if they screw up. My neighbor got into some trouble putting his in. I had them do the last dino oil change with Mopar 15w-40. At 20k I will take it to Cummins Atlantic and have them put in their Semi-synthetic. Dealer gave me a ride home and called when it was done- pretty good for those of us who are worthless. It may be my imagination but it seems to run better with the new filter.

mimprevento -

$43 for them to change it and that price included the filter?

If so, when you buy the filter they charge $43... . geez

Or was that just the price of the filter on your invoice PLUS service time?

If the filter was becoming restrictive (and of your lift pump is becoming tired)... it might run better when the filter is changed.

I learned my lesson and now do my own. Dealer would not drain the housing. They just unscrewed the filter and poped on a new one and then dropped it back down in the housing. That way the water/sensor was not cleaned. If you want it done right you have to do it yourself.

My first filter change was done by the dealer by my grandfather's. I was visiting while on leave (Navy). I was charged about $45 for the filter, $50 for labor, and the 6% tax. I couldn't get the truck back for about 5 hours since the filter they tried putting in wasn't for the 2000. They had to get one from another dealer.

NAPA

For those who might not have time to wait on delivery from Geno's try NAPA. Around $13 I believe and it looks to be the same as OEM. Anyway NAPA stuff is pretty good as far as I know. Not affiliated with NAPA in any way just a good source when not using Geno's.
