Just recently purchased a Y2K 3500. The truck runs and drives great. Just a problem with fumes. When sitting at idle you get just a little hint of a fume which I have had in my other trucks and going to double check the cowl seal. My main concern is when you shut it down. I have a real strong odor of fuel for a couple of hours just sitting there parked. Get up in the morning to go to work the smell is gone but when I get to work I can go out there about 3 hrs later and still have a pretty good fuel fume lingering. Thanks for any info.

I would check the fuel lines especially all the connections from the lift pump forward and check for drips/leaks/wetspots also take a close lookat the fuel filter cannister drain valve. Don't forget to check the return line as well. It is possible that one of the schrader valve needle pins has come a little loose unscrew the caps and check/smell closely. Since the smell is going away I would check it as soon after shutdown as you can. I would think it must be a small one probably just a weep and it must only be happening under pressure.

If you have an electric fuel pressure gauge, check the sending unit for leaks. (Don't ask how many sending units with ruptured diaphragms I've had to change out! :( )

Or, just extend the breather tube to end within the slip stream of air under the motor so fumes don't get sucked into the cab. Common problem.
