when i fill my truck up the gauge goes up to full. after about 8 miles it is on 3/4, 20 miles 1/2 and by the time i drive 40 miles it is down to empty. the light wont come on until about 200 miles and even then i fill it back up and it takes 16 gallons. any one else have this problem or know what the problem is. thanks.

It's probably the fuel gauge sending unit. You have to lift the bed or lower the tank to remove the fuel module. Where do you live? There may be an experienced member close by to give you a hand.

I agree with Joe G. fuel sending unit is probly bad make sure your tank is about empty before you change it its alot easier

My 99 did that when It was new

They change the tank unit twice and the dash unit a couple of times and It kept doing the same thing. Then one day I was playing with the dash dimmer wheel on the headlight switch. As I turn It the fuel gauge would would go to empty then back to full. I went to the dealer and they put a new headlight switch In the truck and no problem from then on. Just something to check on your truck.

how big of a project is it to do? I think that i will drop the tank out of the truck seeing as it will be only me doing it. Any tips or tricks that will make the job easier or take less time.
