2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Fuel Gauge Sender

My fuel gauge doesn't work in my 95 CTD. It hasent for some time now, I bought a new mopar sender but I heard there was a upgrade that uses a 98 sender with a wiring change. I would like to use the 98 and up if possible since this isn't the first sender that has been replaced in my truck. I'm the second owner and the original owner said he replaced it twice over the coarse of 160k miles. If anyone has heard of this upgrade let me know.

This is the fix I did on my '98. I have no lathe so I just used a small bolt, which is not as good but it has been working great this way for 4+ years and almost 200k miles. I don't know what the differences are on the newer ones but they fail too. Mine was under 100k when it would lose contact now and then and the gauge would drop to empty/chime and then back up again. You might want to perform the "fix" on your new one and then you should be good to go for a long time.

I did that fix too. Then I found out that the sending unit was not reading right. It seemed to work ok, but was off on the resistance reading. The result was that the fuel gauge was off about 1/4. When I first bought the truck the sending unit worked but it was way off. I had it replaced under warrantee. The second one lasted over 200K miles before it got flacky. The new one that I replaced the repair attempt with is working fine. Not lying nearly as bad as the old one before it wore out.
