2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Fuel gauge sending unit replacement

Greetings, I am having some rotted steel fuel lines replaced on my '97 CTD w/ 8ft. bed. The fuel sending unit has needed replacement for about a yr. now, I rely on the tripometer as to when to fill up. My question is: Has there been an update on the replacement sending units as to eliminate the need to replace this in the future? Unfortunately I am having my local dealer do the work as I do not have the time or facilities to do the work. Thanks.

Not sure on the upgrade or not but make sure they don't try to sell you the complete unit (sending/float/pickup etc $300?. ) You are able to just get the sending unit only, I think about $50 for the sending unit.
