Fuel gauge sending unit

Does anyone know how much a fuel sending unit for my 98 would cost? My gauge is becoming less dependable as time goes on. Last time I filled up the gauge was on the make just above the red mark and it only took 20 gals. Thanks.

I just replaced my about 5 months ago. The unit coast 54 or 57 dollars, I'm not sure which. I have a 97.

Has anyone replaced their fuel gauge sending unit? Do you have tho remove the fuel tank, or can you just drop it down a bit to get the unit out? Any helpful experience will be appreciated. Randy.

If you have a floor jack I've found it easier to raise the bed rather than drop the tank. Just remove the three bolts on the drivers side bed and loosen the pass side, disconnect the fill and vent hoses, watch for any wires that might go tight when you jack the drivers side bed up. With this method it doesn't matter how much fuel is in the tank. This is also the method that most dealers use. Make sure to wedge a 2x4 in-between the bed and frame while you are working in there, it would make one heck of a mouse trap.

I dropped the tank. The job wasn't nearly as bad as I had expected. Be sure to go to the car wash first and clean any grime off.

Best price (sender #3) for me was Mopar4Less, even

after shipping was included. Just make sure to mention 'internet sales' or you pay regular. I have also had luck convincing local parts folks to meet Mopar4less or other lower quotes.

I took the tank off.

I took the tank off on my 97, but after putting a gooseneck plate between the bed and the frame and seeing how easy it was. I would just jack up the bed next time. I paid $60 for my sending unit. I have since learned a good deal about buying from the dealership. A friend of mine has a diesel repair shop in a small town about 40 miles from here. He called me to see if I could locate and pick up a part for him. Dodge had it, wanted $90 or so for it. I told them (Dodge) it was for a repair shop. Gave him the name and address, and he sold it to me for $38. I even paid for it with my check. Now when I get something from the Dealer it is for my buddies mech shop.
