I can't believe that it is time once again to replace the fuel sending unit on my truck. I did this about 18 months ago.

I am assuming that it is the sending unit. It started by slowly registering the correct levels and then stopped registering all together and decided to park itself at the 3/4 mark. Full or empty it reads 3/4 of a tank. With the ignition off it reads zero and back up to 3/4, key on.

Is this another sending unit problem or perhaps something else?

I have an '02 and have totally replaced my sending unit with a mechanical one. I have a thread about it (ie long). I have been running the replaced mechanical unit for about 6 months now with zero errors.

Short version:

You remove the sending unit on the cannister.

You look at your tank from the outside (Mine has a step up from the cannister going forward, and is where I mounted the new sender unit)

You measure the tank depth from where you decide to relocate the sender.

Google TEMPO marine fuel senders.

Find the one that best matches the tank depth where you are going to relocate the sender.

Google the "remote reading capsule" for the TEMPO sender (this is going to connect to the DC bus)

Google the Stewart Warner fuel sender install kit (also is in the long thread)

Drop the tank, Empty it and clean any "stuff out"

***********

You are going to drill the new location for the Tempo sender into the tank

***********

BE CERTAIN the swing of the sender is FORWARD

Get the new Tempo sender

Decide if you want to change the new Tempo float to the PF26 or not

Do or do not change the float (instructions in the long thread)

Mount Tempo sender with remote module

Solder in parallel resistor so the non standard DC bus will read a industry standard fuel sender.

Close the tank and remount to the truck

Call me 863-206-3464 if you need more info.

Mine has worked perfectly. No bouncing of the gauge, accurate gauge readings, etc
