looking for shop to rebuild engine

Any TDR members here who buy their diesel at Fred Meyer fuel stops, I had an issue this cold am with fuel gelling. Started hard, wouldn't run over 1400 rpm, and thats after idling for 8 minutes before leaving work. I changed the filter and dosed the tank, should be ok now, but I knew better than to stray away from Flying J, thank god it was only partially plugged

YUP - un-winterized diesel fuel is only good down to zero degrees - and its been lower than that here in eastern Oregon and western Idaho...

M1AShooter,

Good luck on the fuel issues, that has gotten a lot of press on TDR lately.

We are at about 70 or so today in SC after a lot of rain last night and this AM I think from the E of the Mississippi storm front that is going through.

Gary, tell Arleen to keep your long johns folded and ready for service to keep you warm when it is finally ice fishing time.

M1AShooter, been keeping them in the X Ring?

Fred Myers buys their fuel from Flying J, but they only winterize fuel to 0*F here in the valley, and it was -8*F at my house this morning... Except this tank (wanted B20 to clean my system before a filter change) I exclusively buy FM fuel as they get it from a good source and its cheaper than most other places, never had as issue.

I too gelled up, but I have B20 in the tank (also winterized to 0*F), I even added a half dose of Amsoil Cold Flow improver yesterday. . guess I needed a full dose. .

Lucking I noticed the issue on my fuel psi gauge before it effected my drivability, I had to pull over this am and pour a half bottle of Diesel Rescue in the tank. Then I got back in a bumped the idle to 1100 and turned the EB on trying to get some heat. . 3 minutes later the fuel psi jumped back up to 7 and off to work I went...

ULSD starts to gell at 8 degrees F. I try NOT to run any bio diesel.
1. It costs more
2. Bio diesel is LESS efficient/lower BTU's
3. Diesel at the CAR pumps might NOT be treated the same as at the truck pumps.
I don't know what a Fred Meyer is but I would stick to Fly J or other reputable TRUCK
fuel places if I knew it was going to be cold enough to gell ULSD diesel. I treat EVERY gallon that goes into my truck with Lubricity additive. 433k and counting. I bought the cheaper diesel at a Murphy USA (Walmart) My fuel mileage went down and the guy behind the register said he didn't think they treated the diesel as it was at a CAR pump. Others have told me this as well.

I called both Flying J stations yesterday. . Been sub zero here for 3 days and neither of them have begun winterizing yet...

I had a discussion with the manager out on Federal way today, and yes they are not treating it. He suggested if I had any issues to add additive. #@$%!

Friend of mine owns a disel shop in Boise, he did say it has been very good for his business this week...
